Dr. Vazquez is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, Nebraska Music Teachers Association, and a member of the Music Honor Society of Pi Kappa Lambda. He performed at the College Music Society National Conference in 2021. Most recently, Dr. Vazquez was a guest lecturer at the 2023 Nebraska Music Teachers Association conference in Omaha.
As a specialist in the music of Manuel M. Ponce, he is an editor and guest artist for The Ponce Project. He has performed throughout his home country of Mexico, the United States, and Slovakia, with a focus on Mexican and Spanish music as well as the music of Chopin and Liszt.
How it started
Oscar Vazquez Medrano’s life changed forever as a young boy when his parents took him to the Palacio de Bellas Artes, a cultural center for the arts in Mexico City.
The equivalent of the famed Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, Vazquez was amazed by the grand sounds played by the orchestra, but particularly, one instrument.
“It was like love at first sight. We were seated in the first few rows and I saw the piano and was just mesmerized, he recalled. The grand piano and its sound were amazing to me, but I was also impressed by the skill of the pianist …I told my parents I really wanted to try music.”
Fast forward decades later, Vazquez is a seasoned musician who plays professionally thanks in part to his lifelong commitment to his craft in music education. In 2023, he and his wife, Krista opened Vazquez Music Studio in Columbus...
